Nordea launches new fund to capitalise on Europe’s “strategic reset”

Nordea launches new fund to capitalise on Europe’s “strategic reset”

Nordea Asset Management (NAM) is preparing to launch the Nordea 1 – Empower Europe Fund, “a high-conviction strategy designed to capture the first wave of growth resulting from Europe’s strategic reset,” describes the entity that is part of the Nordea Group, a financial services group with €422 billion in assets under management.

“Against a backdrop of changing global dynamics and an increased focus on economic security, we see interesting investment opportunities emerging across Europe,” said Nordea Asset Management CEO Nils Bolmstrand.

“Nordea AM’s Empower Europe Fund is designed to build on this momentum by investing in companies at the forefront of energy, industrial and cyber transformation – sectors that we believe are poised for long-term, sustainable growth,” said Nils Bolmstrand.

In view of this, Nordea Asset Management has identified three strategic pillars that, in its view, will allow Europe to occupy its “deserved economic and geopolitical space”.

One of the pillars is to “boost Europe and invest in future-oriented energy companies”, through “companies that ensure Europe’s energy independence and redefine infrastructure resilience”.

The other pillar involves the return of European industry with “a focus on undervalued innovation drivers in the areas of automation, robotics and the relocation of industrial production — essential for the continent’s industrial revitalization”.

And finally, the other pillar is based on a “Smart European Defence”. For Nordea Asset Management, “from cyber intelligence to secure networks – and beyond – these are not traditional contractors; they are agile players, well positioned for relevance and revenue growth”.

Nordea Asset Management states that this new shareholder strategy aims to “capture the opportunities resulting from the current strategic dynamism, with a focus on generating alpha where public investment, private innovation and geopolitical need converge”.

The fund will be managed by René Møller Petersen and Hilde Jenssen, who have a combined experience of over 30 years, “and builds on both René Møller Petersen’s track record leading NAM’s award-winning European Equity Strategy (Nordea 1 – European Sustainable Stars Equity Fund) and Hilde Jenssen’s leadership as head of NAM’s Fundamental Equities team.”

“While global markets struggle with fragmentation, tariffs and uncertainty, Europe is quietly gaining momentum. Public and private capital is being channelled into energy resilience, industrial revitalisation and cybersecurity, resulting in a new generation of high-impact European companies rapidly gaining ground,” said Nordea Asset Management.
